Political Communication Section at the ECPR General Conference, 8-11 Sep 2026

The Political Communication Section (S69) at the ECPR General Conference 2026 invites submissions to the section Political Communication Between Disruptive Technologies and Democratic Backsliding. Chaired by Johanna Burger (Freie Universität Berlin) and Thomas Milic (University of Zurich), the section will meet at Jagiellonian University, Kraków from 8–11 September 2026 and is endorsed by the ECPR Standing Group on Political Communication.

We welcome theoretical and empirical work that investigates how emerging technologies (including generative AI and platform governance), information disorders, media intermediaries, and political actors interact to shape democratic resilience or decline. Submissions addressing technology and authenticity, disinformation and cross-border influence, the role of journalism and fact-checking, and responses by parties, states, and civil society are especially relevant; a wide range of methods is encouraged.

Submit panel and paper proposals by 9 January 2026. Visit the section page for guidelines and to submit your proposal.

Deadline: 9 January 2026
